A day with a difference

I have always said that there are worse places to live than Shoreham; today I tried something new, and with the parish Deacon flew from Shoreham Airport to Le Touquet for lunch. The flight cost only a little more than a taxi to Gatwick Airport, took 40 minutes, and on returning, we were in the car (which we were able to park at the airport right outside the terminal for £2 per day) about three minutes after landing. Less than an hour before writing this, I was in France. Not bad, eh? The landing was rather spectacular, too, coming right down the Adur Valley.

Does "spectacular" mean visually spectacular, or "heart in the mouth" spectacular?

And you went all the way to France for lunch and didn't tell us what you had?

:-D

There used to be a superb sea food restaurant in the town. I wonder if it is still there? I was there last some twenty years ago and had the most superb lobster imaginable.

Unfortunately, I travelled in a far less spectacular fashion, by ferry, which was most unpleasant

The airport looks so Agatha Christie! Next time, try flying to Caen and get the train to Bayeux (15-20 minutes), where you can see the Bayeux tapestry and the cathedral, taking in a trou nomande on the way!

I'm told the airport often is used in films &c set in the 1930s. It really is splendid art deco.

The view of Lancing College, as you drive over the bridge, is spectacular! Isn't the airport near the college, too?

Yes, Ponte, it's a very splendid view.
