The Latin Mass Society are looking for a General Manager and have asked me to advertise this. Please email john@latin-mass-society.org if you are interested.
I, too, wonder what is driving 'anonymous'. I made a comment immediately after reading his/her first contribution about the hornets nest but it was not published. My comment was not aggressive in any way. Why doesn't anonymous put some meat on his snide comments and add his/her real name? Or else keep silent.
What short memories people have! Remember the fuss over the training conferences at Merton College, Oxford, and the subsequent resignations? Who would want to 'manage' such an outfit? They've even put that pretentious twit Jamie Bogle on the committee, a sure sign that the nest of hornets and vipers is alive and well. After the recent debacle it's hard to take the LMS seriously. When they are rung up the people who answer the telephone sound as if they were educated at Borstal. I cannot believe that they can read Latin or anything more taxing than the Daily Mail, come to that. The LMS has become an encumbrance and an embarrassment and is best disbanded.
So, 'anonymous' has come clean at last (in a fashion). The 'fuss' over the Merton conferences was created by a newsman whose revelations bore no relation to the truth. Unfortunately, the inevitable happened - the first story to hit the streets was believed. Likewise, the resignations - only one side of the story was published; the committee maintained a dignified silence which was the correct thing to do. As for Jamie Bogle, it was the members of the LMS who elected him to the committee after a due ballot of all the members. Perhaps anonymous considers that ALL the members are vipers or hornets? The comments about 'Borstal' and the 'Daily Mail' are just gratuitioulsy offensive and say more about the writer than those about whom he is writing. Perhaps 'anonymous' should look into the mirror when speaking about being an embarrassment. The LMS is like the Church itself, in that there are some members who may not achieve the high ideals expected by 'anonymous', but we struggle on despite the ignorant slings and arrows thrown against us and, like the Church, we persevere and make progress because we believe in what we do. May I ask 'anonymous' some pertinent questions? What does he do to further the cause of tradition? Does he arrange Masses or pilgrimages? Does he serve or sing at traditional Masses? Does he actually attend any traditional Masses? In my experience it is the people who complain the loudest who do the least.
From the point of view of concealment, there isn't a lot to choose between calling oneself 'anonymous' and 'discreet observer'. I think this is quite enough uncharity all round. I intended merely to do a courtesy to the LMS by posting its advertisement. If either 'anonymous' or 'discreet observer' wish to make any further remarks, they must use their real names.

Well, that's clear enough! Obviously, comments are those of the commentator and do not necessarily reflect my opinions.

What fun! I could put up with any amount of this for 35 grand; you could chuck in the other Bogle too!
