The Benedictine Arrangement

I visited Arundel Cathedral last Sunday for the Confirmation of some of the young people from the Valle Adurni, and was very pleased to see the high altar looking splendid, with the 'Benedictine Arrangement' of candlesticks and substantial cross (no seventh candle, alas). There also has appeared a rather wonderful enormous new paschal candlestick.

Good news - perhaps they were not able to find a seventh candle in time! Brick by brick....

Yes, that looks v good, do we know whose idea it was [apart from the Holy Father's]

When you make Bishop you can add the seventh candle.

Still versus populum - BOO!

Is it new? My first guess from the style would be that it's an old one that's been lurking in the back of a cupboard somewhere for a few decades, and whose merits have now again been recognised.

It's the same as the new arrangement at Westminster Cathedralwhere the administrator is a convert. It is what is used in many Anglo-Cathlic parishes so it might be part of the influence of the Anglican Patrimony within the RC church as well as showing the influence of the Holy Father who is in many ways in the tradition of the Oxford Movement! It looks very fine.

Read this interesting and important article: Tracy Rowland agrees that Pope Benedict would be happier in an Oxbridge College chapel at Evensong than in some suburban RC churches with their no"music groups. " Haven't we always said that. Also, As I have argued in the Church Time, Benedict is close to the theology of Rowan Williams in his tendency towards Augustinianism and Platonism (bring on CD.S.Lewis!). I had aimed to write an article in the summer on"Is the Pope an Anglo-Catholic) Tracy Rowland's has written it! http://ordinariateportal.wordpress.com/2011/06/18/tracey-rowland-the-anglican-patrimony/
