Booze

A complete contrast; in Canada, alcohol can, it seems, only be purchased in Government-run shops. I saw a posh wine shop in Toronto, but nowhere else other than in not-very-common governmental ‘liquor stores’. Here in San Diego, I purchased for mine host a bottle of Moët champagne (significantly cheaper than in the UK, I might say) in a pharmacy!

It's a medicine of a sort...

Here in the US when and where you can purchase liquor varies from state to state and even county to county.

I always suspected that champagne was medicinal. I suppose that the champagne was with the vitamin pills and the red wine was over by the heart medicines ...

Out here you're pretty much "good to buy" except between 2am and 6am.
